Prop 36 has been helping people enter treatment and improve—and even save—their own lives since July 2001. Since then, over 60,000 Californians have completed drug treatment and had a good chance at recovery.

These are the stories of some of those people. If you would like to include your story, let us know by clicking on the "Submit Your Story" link above.

Rene S.

I am a recovering meth addict. I’ve dabbled with drugs for 15 years or so, but, before I knew it, it became an addiction. But I really didn’t look at it like that, even after my bad habit had stripped me of my job, family and self-worth. I spent nights in jail; depression and misery were setting in. I wanted to die.

I was forced to go to rehab by Prop. 36. I didn’t realize that God was helping me! When I finally went to rehab someone told me ‘the only reason why you are here is because someone prayed for you!’ A light bulb came on. I wanted a way out of my drug infested world. Someone else at rehab said ‘you’re supposed to be here right now, you’re safe.’ That person was right.

God has showed and given me things that I thought I would never have! I got back everything I’ve lost! I’m grateful for everything. I’m clean and sober today! Thanx to Prop. 36! Prop. 36 really does work! It’s a wonderful thing! For me, it was a blessing in disguise.
